Exfoliated graphite carbon

Carbon materials used for the commercial synthesis of carbon fluoride include natural graphite, petroleum coke, activated carbon, carbon black and carbon fiber. Experimental carbon materials include residual carbon, exfoliated graphite, fullerenes and other unique carbons and carbon inserts. The degree of graphitization of carbon material varies continuously, so it is not simple to define the exact boundary between carbon and graphite. The product formed... [Pg.209]

Exfoliated graphite - amorphous carbon (EG-AC) composites are widely used in a broad range of applications like adsorption of gases and liquids, separation, and high-surface catalyst supports. They also seem to be attractive for energy- and gas- storage systems. [Pg.443]

In the case of intercalation reactions, the nanotexture of the host carbon materials has a strong effect. The intercalation of sulfuric acid into natural graphite can proceed at room temperature in concentrated sulfuric acid with a small amount of oxidant, such as nitric acid. The resulting intercalation compound is commonly used in industry for the preparation of exfoliated graphite [32], However, in order to intercalate sulfuric acid into carbon fibers, electrolysis is needed [145,146], Potassium as a vapor, on the other hand, can be easily intercalated in various carbon materials, even in low-temperature-treated carbon fibers [147],... [Pg.70]

Our experiments, as well as analysis of the proposed theoretical model for a generalized system of porous electrode "active material - carbon additive" proved that thermally exfoliated graphite (TEG) can be one of the most effective conductive additive and structural support for the different new and existing active materials. The reason for such wide application of TEG is a following unique complex of TEG properties low density, relatively high conductivity and stability to electrochemical oxidation. [Pg.836]

A systematic study of krypton adsorption on exfoliated graphite was subsequently undertaken by Thorny and co-workers (Thorny and Duval, 1969 Thorny et al., 1972). Their stepwise isotherm, determined at 77.3 K, is shown in Figure 4.1. The layer-by-layer nature of the physisorption process is clearly evident - at least up to four molecular layers. This isotherm shape is remarkably similar to that of the krypton isotherm on graphitized carbon black reported by Amberg et al., (1955). [Pg.248]

Cls and FIs binding energies and relative amounts of carbon and fluorine in fluorinated exfoliated graphite (1.7% O is also found at the surface)... [Pg.474]

Any kind of carbon, such as natural graphite, petroleum coke, carbon black, carbon fiber, exfoliated graphite, natural or synthetic graphite and fullerenes can be fluorinated under controlled conditions. Each carbon has unique crystalline properties. To achieve a desired degree of fluorination — or carbon fluorine ratio — numerous experiments are conducted in specialized TGFA reactors to determine the operating conditions such as fluorination temperature, fluorine flow rate, and fluorination duration. [Pg.678]
