Carbon dioxide determination

These workers found that the efficiency of oxidation was a function of the residence time of the sample in the reactor and the flow rate of the carrier gas. A high precision of carbon dioxide determination was achieved at a sample flow rate of 50 ml/h and a carrier gas flow rate of 621/h, of which 401/h passes through the shielded zone. [Pg.491]

The P-V Isotherms of Carbon Dioxide The importance of critical temperature of a gas was first discovered by T. Andrews in his experiments on pressure-volume relationships (isotherms) of carbon dioxide gas at a series of temperatures. The isotherms of carbon dioxide determined by him at different temperatures is shown in the figure given above. Consider first the isothermal at the lowest temperature, viz., 13.1 C. The point A represents carbon dioxide in gaseous state occupying a certain volume under a certain pressure. On increasing the pressure, its volume diminishes as is indicated by the curve AB. At B which represents a pressure of 49.8 atm, liquefaction of the gas commences and thereafter a rapid decrease in volume takes place at the same pressure, as more and more of the gas is converted into the liquid state. At C, the gas has been completely liquefied. Now, as the liquid is only slightly compressible, further increase of pressure produces only a very small decrease in volume. A steep line CD that is almost vertical shows this. [Pg.135]

The air pollutant SO2 is removed from the air by means of a reaction among sulfur dioxide, calcium carbonate, and oxygen. The prodncts of this reaction are calcium sulfate and carbon dioxide. Determine the mole ratio yon wonld nse to convert mol SO2 to mol CaS04. [Pg.379]

Pembrey has found values for the R. Q. of hibernating marmots as low as 0.55 while Voit reported a minimum value of 0.33. In all cases where these values were obtained, the actual quantities of oxygen and carbon dioxide determined were extremely small and it is possible that inaccuracies could be traceable to analytical difficulties. It should be pointed out that most of Pembrey s values for R. Q. s in the hibernating marmots are approximately 0.70 or above. Irregularities in breathing... [Pg.137]

Almost half of the known types of polysaccharides contain uronic acid units. Uronic acid residues may be determined by decarboxylation with 12% hydrochloric acid and the evolved carbon dioxide determined by absorption (4) or by manometric measurement (S). A micro-quantitative colorimetric method employing carbazole has been developed for uronic acids (6), (See also Part II of this chapter and Chapter XI.)... [Pg.648]

An industrial synthesis of urea obtains 87.5 kg of urea upon reaction of 68.2 kg of ammonia with 105 kg of carbon dioxide. Determine the limiting reactant, theo-rehcal yield of urea, and percent yield for the reaction. [Pg.281]

The viscosity data for the triglycerides and carbon dioxide determined in this work are presented in Figs. 15.13 and 15.14. Available literature data for the polymers and carbon dioxide [19, 20] and water, pure [21] and saturated with CO2 [22] are presented in Figs. 15.16 and 15.17, respectively. [Pg.579]

Speciation calculations for the carbonate system using the alkalinity data and pH values after day 50 and plotted in Fig. 3, are consistent with C02(g) partial pressures ranging between 10" and lO atm. These values agree well with the values for carbon dioxide determined by gas chromatography of dissolved gases collected from water samples in boreholes at the site (Table 2). There is clearly a dominant source of carbon dioxide to the groundwater at the site, presumably microbial respiration or fermentation of organic carbon. [Pg.94]

To determine the nature of the species involved in adsorption of methanol in acidic solution Breiter [52, 53] used a combination of anodic charging curves at electrodes with an extended surface and gas -chromatographic carbon dioxide determination. Since the anodic... [Pg.321]
