Danesi et al. studied the kinetics of transport of Am(lll) from aqueous nitrate solutions to formic acid aqueous solutions using an SLM, which consisted of a solution of a new (carbamoylmethyl)phosphine oxide in diethylbenzene (DEB) [110]. In an attempt to treat simulated low-level radioactive wastewater, Teramoto et al. [Ill] have used an SLM containing CMPO for the uphill transport of Ce(III) from aqueous solution containing a mixmre of nitric acid and sodium nitrate. The simulated waste contained Ce(III), Fe(III), Cr(III), and Ca(II), while the strip solution contained water or sodium citrate solution. Though TBP has been used along with CMPO and w-dodecane as the carrier solution, it also facilitates the transport of HNO3 to the strip side. The acid transport was significantly decreased when CMPO alone in 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether was used as the carrier solution. [Pg.900]

CMP, CMPO system. Horwitz and Kalina (1984), Horwitz et al. (1986) developed neutral bifunctional extractants CMP (RiR2-N,N-di(R ) carbamoylmethyl phosphonate) and CMPO (RiR2-N,N,- di(R )-carbamoylmethyl phosphine oxide, see Fig. 18.20) for the separation of trivalent actinide ions. With thiocyanate as a counter ion in the CMPO system, americium is preferentially extracted and the separation factor S.E (Am /Eu ) is about seven (Muscatello etal. 1982). [Pg.853]

The TRUEX process, developed at ANL in the early 1980s (Schulz and Horwitz 1988 Mathur et al. 1995), was found to be a very efficient process for co-extracting the An(III) with the Ln(III) from HLW. The process uses a phosphine oxide derivative, CMPO(n-octyl-phenyl-di-isobutyl-carbamoylmethyl-phosphine-oxide) to co-extract the An(III)-Ln(III)... [Pg.2826]

This paper describes a comparison of the extraction behavior of selected. actinide(III), (IV), and (VI) ions by the dihexyl-N, N-diethyl analogs of carbamoylmethyl-phosphonate and phosphinate and octyl(phenyl)-N,N-diisobutylcarbamoylmethylphosphine oxide. [Pg.429]
