Capricorn, Tropic

Coffee is grown in countries situated between the Tropics of Capricorn and Cancer. C. arabica is the most widely grown, but regions where temperature and humidity are rather high have been replanted with C. canephora var. robusta. Robusta coffees are thus the major species grown in the less mountainous regions closest to the equator. 

A region of the New World, and therefore closer to home, is that area called Neo Tropica, lying between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, which... 

The CAM plants found in the 18 families studied are largely distributed along the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and in the wet tropics in physiologically dry, epiphytic type habitats. Habitat and niche rather than phylogeny appear to be important. Hence, convergent evolution is apparently the explanation for the existence of the CAM photosynthetic pathway in these plants. 

According to Wu et al. (2005), tropical fruits are those that grow well between the Tropic of Cancer (23° 27 N) and the Tropic of Capricorn (23° 27 S). In this area, frost is rare and both day length and temperature vary little over the course of the year. 

The only genus in this family in Bolivia that has a clearly Andean distribution is Philibertia. This is wholly South American and centred almost exactly on the tropic of Capricorn. Its distribution is shown in Table 10.4. It conforms closely with Ldpez s results (2003b), with eight Bolivian endemics and 15 species occurring in Bolivia and Argentina (category 2) but only two from Bolivia... 

Caution 2. The tropical countries are the areas beween the tropic of Cancer and the tropic of Capricorn. 

Wheat is also planted under irrigation in semidesert areas of the world, although the best quality wheats are generally planted above and below the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn, respectively. 

The tropics extend for 23 28 either side of the equator stretching from the tropic of Cancer in the north to the tropic of Capricorn in the south and represent the tilt of the earth s axis relative to the path around the sun. The sun will pass overhead twice in a year, passing the equator on June 21 on its travel north and September 23 on its travel south. The sun s rays will pass perpendicxdar to the earth s atmosphere and so will have the least amount of filtration, giving high levels of ultraviolet rays.
