Capps [188] compares valve and sieve tray performance as related to capacity and flooding. Also see sieve tray section presented earlier in this chapter. [Pg.211]

At total reflux (L/V) = 1) Capps found several points in the FRI data that corresponded with this [241] definition of ultimate capacity, i.e., the liquid and vapor load at which any increase in either liquid or vapor would induce flooding by at least one of the following mechanisms ... [Pg.211]

The most common of the spray tests is the salt-spray or salt-fog test which was developed originally by Capp in 1914 for studying the protective values of metallic coatings on steel under conditions that he hoped would simulate exposure to a sea-coast atmosphere. Since then the test has been used for a number of purposes, for many of which it is not well suited Although there is no standard size or shape of salt-spray box certain other features of the test have been standardised in ASTM B117 1990. Various... [Pg.1022]

This reaction was discovered by Bart in 1911 (see also Bart, 1922 a, 1922 b). The yields are highly dependent on the alkalinity of the system. Bart s claim (1922b) that arylarsonic acid anions are formed directly from (Z)-diazoates is, however, doubtful (see below). Various modifications with increased yields are described in the review by Hamilton and Morgan (1944). The reaction can also be carried out with heteroaromatic diazonium salts (Capps and Hamilton, 1938). [Pg.275]

The capital cost of a pipe run increases with diameter, whereas the pumping costs decrease with increasing diameter. The most economic pipe diameter will be the one which gives the lowest annual operating cost. Several authors have published formulae and nomographs for the estimation of the economic pipe diameter, Genereaux (1937), Peters and Timmerhaus (1968) (1991), Nolte (1978) and Capps (1995). Most apply to American practice and costs, but the method used by Peters and Timmerhaus has been modified to take account of UK prices (Anon, 1971). [Pg.219]
