Candida intermedia

It is appropriate to record here a well-founded, experimental observation that was once considered220 inconsistent with these generalizations and with other information in this Chapter. In 1940, Kluyver and Custers387 established the correctness of some earlier reports that certain yeasts can utilize particular disaccharides aerobically, but not anaerobically, although they can use the component hexoses anaerobically. This is true for the utilization of maltose by Torulopsis dattila77-337,333 and of lactose by Candida intermedia (Blastodendrion intermedium).41,387 Anaerobic utilization is, presumably, blocked at the level of transport across the plasmalemma this possibility could readily be investigated. [Pg.183]

Kisra Sorghum Thin pancake bread, staple Ped. pentosaceus, Lactobacillus confusus Lb. brevis, Lactobacillus sp., Erwinia ananas, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter cloacae, Candida intermedia, Debaryomyces hansenii, Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp., Fusarium sp., Rhizopus sp Sudan (Mohammed, Steenson, Kirleis, 1991)... [Pg.128]

Polysaccharides composed of D-mannosyl and phosphate residues (5 1) have been isolated and purified from cells of Candida intermedia and Torulopsis famata. D-Mannose 6-phosphate was released on mild hydrolysis with acid, possibly by cleavage of a phosphodiester bond linking it to C-1 of an adjacent D-mannosyl residue. [Pg.265]
