There is, however, a possibility that an increased risk of breast cancer might be associated with the state of infertility itself and not with the agents administered to treat it. In a retrospective study of data on 12 193 women evaluated for infertility between 1965 and 1988 at five clinical sites, 292were identified and followed up to the end of 1999. The standardized incidence ratios for in situ and invasive breast cancers in these women were compared with the breast cancer risks in a cohort from the general population (62). Infertile patients as a group had a significantly higher risk of breast cancer (RR = 1.29, 95%CI... 

ERP status was studied in pre- and postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer and correlated with clinical response to cytotoxic chemotherapy in a retrospective study (K5). These patients were treated with CAP (cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, 5-fiuorouracil) or CMF (cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, 5-fluorouracil) CMFV (CMF, vincristine) or CAFVP or CMFVP (CAFV or CMFV, prednisone). The data suggested that ERP+ tumors responded better to cytotoxic chemotherapy than ERP- tumors. However, within the ERP+ group, the premenopausal women appear to have a better chance of responding to chemotherapy than postmenopausal ones. 

Based on safety concerns with cefepime compared to other antimicrobials, a retrospechve study was conducted to evaluate the clinical outcomes of 532 paediatric patients with cancer who received either ceftazidime or cefepime for suspecfed or proved infections. No statistically significant difference was seen in patienfs who received cefepime compared to those who received ceftazidime. While these data are encouraging, it should be interpreted cautiously due to the retrospective design and limited power of the study, though it does agree with the most recent FDA reporting of a meffl-analysis that reported no mortality disadvantage to cefepime use for its approved indications [61 , 62 ].
