Fimctioning of the normal human body requires exquisite control of cell siuvival and proliferation unwanted cells die whereas others proliferate just enough to maintain health or to repair injury. Cancer occurs when this regulation breaks down causing inappropriate cell proliferation, sometimes in just one cell of the billions of cells in the body. Thus, one shouldn t ask Why does cancer occur but rather Why doesn t cancer occm more frequently .
