Campaign impact

The first perspective is the traditional safety engineering approach (Section 2.4). This stresses the individual factors that give rise to accidents and hence emphasizes selection, together with motivational and disciplinary approaches to accident and error reduction. The main emphasis here is on behavior modification, through persuasion (motivational campaigns) or pimishment. The main area of application of this approach has been to occupational safety, which focuses on hazards that affect the individual worker, rather than process safety, which emphasizes major systems failures that could cause major plant losses and impact to the environment as well as individual injury.

Table 6 shows the concentrations of BDE congeners from the different selected sites during the two sampling campaigns. PBDEs were detected in all the sediment samples at concentrations ranging from 11 to 14,400 ng/g dw. The site V2 was found to be the most contaminated zone followed by site V3 > site VI. As expected, PBDE levels were greater near the site of industrial impact [40]. 

It is good that we should be concerned about the environmental impact of what we, as chemists, do to our planet. But many environmental campaigners too easily confuse radioactive toxicity and chemical toxicity. For example, the radon gas emanating from naturally occurring granite rocks is chemically inert, because it is a rare gas, but it is toxic to humans because of its radioactivity. Conversely, sodium cyanide contains no radioactive constituents yet is chemically toxic. 

The maximum number of campaigns is a critical parameter impacting model performance, since an increased number of campaigns results in more variables as well as longer run time as shown in table 33.
