Calculation of exposure

This information is to be submitted to the authorized ECHA for the purpose of substance registrations (details see above in clause 3.4). The essential information should be recorded in the factsheet (SDS) of each chemical including exposure scenarios in case they are substantial. This article describes the importance of the waste stage in the drafting of exposure scenarios. The waste phase is to be included in the calculation of exposure. As part of the implementation of REACH, guidance documents were developed with detailed recommendations which describe how this is to be done. Important aspects of this procedure are explained above. [Pg.150]

Calculation of Exposure. A great advantage of Risk Assistant is that it allows users to consider a wide range of factors that will influence quantitative exposure estimates (e.g., specific exposure factors for different populations, pathways, and scenarios) with a minimum of effort. Thus, a user can rapidly produce alternative exposure evaluations, including best estimates, reasonable worst-case exposure estimates, and worst case exposure estimates. Moreover, the system provides the user with information on the degree of uncertainty contributed by various assumptions used in the analysis, which can guide the user s future data collection efforts so that they result in maximum reduction of uncertainty. [Pg.195]

The calculation of exposure by the patch technique also assumes that deposition of pesticide is uniform over... [Pg.389]

As methods of exposure estimation, neither the fluorescent tracer technique nor the patch technique have been validated. Nevertheless, it would be encouraging if a comparison of estimates by the two methods yielded roughly equivalent results. The only body region which can be reasonably compared is the head, as the patch method assumes no clothing penetration, and no hand wash was conducted in this study. Furthermore, four of the six workers must be excluded, as they wore face shields. Thus, the only comparison available is the head and neck exposure of workers 1 and 2. These data are presented in Table IX. Following the protocol outlined by Durham and Wolfe ( ) and Davis ( ), the amount of diazinon recovered from the dermal monitor on the chests of the two workers is employed to calculate exposure to the face and front of neck. A similar patch on the back allows calculation of exposure to the back of the neck. [Pg.390]

PAs cause veno-occlusive disease of the liver after significant consumption and are associated with other ill effects. Comprehensive knowledge of the occurrence of PAs in food and feed is required for the calculation of exposure affecting animals and humans, and to support legislation formulate advice to consumers. Current research into improving or replacing older analytical methods has been prompted by advice to consumers from Australian and New Zealand authorities related to contaminated honey, and by requests from the European Commission via the European Eood Safety Authority (EESA). [Pg.1051]

Once the responsible authority in charge of the clean up has been established and an acceptable risk level established the calculations of exposure potential, model selection and risk calculations can commence. Thus, one selects a desirable outcome and back calculates to develop the acceptable levels of residual PCB, PCDF/PCDD than can be allowed which would not generate excess and unacceptable risks. [Pg.104]
