Calculating Equilibrium Potentials of Solutions Containing Several Redox Couples

Calculating Equilibrium Potentials of Solutions Containing Several Redox Couples [Pg.265]

Calculating the redox potentials of solutions that are mixtures of several redox couples constitutes an important matter. An interesting case of such a mixture is that in which initially only the Ox form of one couple exists together with the Red form of another. The solutions obtained during the course of redox titrations provide especially important examples of these kinds of solutions. Obviously, when they occur, such mixtures induce redox reactions. Of course, these redox reactions may (or may not) be favored from a thermodynamic or kinetic standpoint. This prompts us to investigate the conditions that must be obeyed in order to achieve satisfactory redox titrations. [Pg.265]
