Calcium carbonate carbon composite preparation

An inoculum broth is prepared having the following composition 32 pounds starch 32 pounds soybean meal 10 pounds corn steep solids 10 pounds sodium chloride 6 pounds calcium carbonate and 250 gallons water. 

Sterile agar slants are prepared using the Streptomyces sporulation medium of Hickey and Tresner, J. Bact., vol. 64, pages 891-892 (1952). Four of these slants are inoculated with lyophilized spores of Streptomyces antibioticus NRRL 3238, incubated at 28°C for 7 days or until aerial spore growth is well-advanced, and then stored at 5°C. The spores from the four slants are suspended in 40 ml of 0.1% sterile sodium heptadecyl sulfate solution. A nutrient medium having the following composition is then prepared 2.0% glucose monohydrate 1.0% soybean meal, solvent extracted, 44% protein 0.5% animal peptone (Wilson s protopeptone 159) 0.2% ammonium chloride 0.5% sodium chloride 0.25% calcium carbonate and water to make 100%. 

However, it has been found that a filler can be added within a specified range to provide a suitably tearable filled thermoformed HIPS container lid when the tear back portion of the lid is oriented in the extrusion direction of the PS, when the tear back lid comprises two sets of tear indentations and a tab portion. In this way, the lid is prepared from a HIPS composition consisting essentially of from 10-15% calcium carbonate as filler (28). 

Atomic absorption spectroscopy has been used to determine the amount of impurities in talc samples based on the chemical composition [35]. The detection of calcium, iron, and aluminum gave an indication of the mineral and chemical purity of the talc, whereas, analyses for chromium, manganese, nickel, and copper were of toxicological interest. The sample preparation involved an acid extraction with dilute hydrochloric acid to remove magnesium and calcium carbonates. Total dissolution of the sample was achieved with nitric/hydrofluoric acid mixture, followed by nitric/perchloric acid mixtures. Calcium was determined in the nitrous oxide/acetyiene flame and the other elements were detected in the air/acetylene flame. 

The internal standard method has been widely used for the measurement of the quartz content of industrial dusts. In this analysis, fluorite (CaFj) has been found to be a suitable internal standard. Figure 14-5 shows a calibration curve prepared from mixtures of quartz and calcium carbonate, of known composition, each mixed with enough fluorite to make the weight fraction of fluorite in each composite sample equal to 0.20. The curve is linear and through the origin, as predicted by Eq. (14-16). Bumsted [14.25] describes the determination of quartz in dust by this method, with particular attention to the problems posed by very small samples. 

Calcium carbonate (CaCOj), commonly known as limestone is used in the preparation of a variety of compounds. Calculate the percentage composition of each element in calcium carbonate.
