Caenorhabditis elegans genome project

WORMPEP Caenorhabditis elegans genome sequencing project protein database (WormPep)... [Pg.45]

CatteraU There is some information from the genome projects. In Drosophila there are just two Na channels in the entire genome. In Caenorhabditis elegans there is no sequence that looks exactly hke a Na channel, although there is one that might be. C. elegans has three types of Ca channel, which are similar in structure to the three famihes that are present in vertebrates. In vertebrates there is the Ca l family (which makes L-type Ca currents), the Ca, 2 family (which makes N, P, Q and R-type Ca currents) and the fia 3 family (which makes T-type Ca- currents) there is one of each of these in C. elegans. [Pg.229]
