Cadmium physical properties

Copper. The physical properties of pure copper are given in Table 11. The mechanical properties of pure copper are essentially the same as those for ClOl and CllO. The coppers represent a series of alloys ranging from the commercially pure copper, ClOl, to the dispersion hardened alloy C157. The difference within this series is the specification of small additions of phosphoms, arsenic, cadmium, tellurium, sulfur, zirconium, as well as oxygen. To be classified as one of the coppers, the alloy must contain at least 99.3% copper. [Pg.229]

Although cadmium is not considered a transition element in some periodic tables, it is the central element of the triad with zinc and mercury. Zinc is just above it and mercury is below it in group 12 of the periodic table. Cadmiums chemical and physical properties are similar to its group 12 mates. Their electronegativity is very similar Zn = 1.6, Cd = 1.7, and Hg = 1.9. [Pg.144]

Physical properties of cadmium are listed in Table 1. Its electronic structure is lT2T2 63T3/)63i7104T4p64i7105T, and its oxidation state in almost all of its compounds is +2, although a few compounds have been reported (1) in which cadmium exists in the +1 oxidation state. There are eight natural isotopes ... [Pg.384]

Dimethylcadmium is a colorless liquid mp — 4.5°C, bp 106°C. It fumes upon exposure to air but does not inflame, and decomposes sluggishly in water. It can be stored indefinitely at 0°C in darkness (light sensitive) under an inert atmosphere, or under its own vapor pressure, in a storage flask such as those in Fig. 4. As a result of the weak acceptor character of dimethyl-cadmium, only in very few cases are stable coordination complexes formed with donor ligands its chemical and physical properties have been fully reviewed.13 H NMR (C6D6, rel. Me4Si, 5 ppm) — 0.53(s). [Pg.60]

White Cd(CN)2 is sparingly soluble in water, except in the presence of CN ions, owing to the formation of soluble anionic complexes. On heating it darkens and decomposes at about 200 °C. Cd(CN)2, like Zn(CN)2, has a cubic anti-cuprite structure. Colorless cadmium thiocyanate is sparingly soluble in water, ethanol, and liquid ammonia. In the solid, Cd + is surrounded by an N2S4 octahedron. Cadmium thiocyanate polymers exhibit highly anisotropic physical properties. Yellow Cd(N3)2 is prepared by mixing solutions of Cd(N03)2 and NaNs. The crystals are orthorhombic and decompose with detonation when heated. Cadmium pseudohalides (see Pseudohalide) may be prepared by metathesis (equation 3). [Pg.531]
