CA File

Typical bibliographic databases are the CA File of Chemical Abstracts Service CAS) or Medline of the US National Library of Medicine. Most electronic journals provide articles as full-text files, e.g., the Journal of the American Chemical Society ( ACS). [Pg.238]

The Chemical Abstracts (CA) File is the main abstracting and indexing service for biochemistry, chemistry, and chemical engineering. [Pg.288]

Bibliographic/Technical. The principal databases in which bibhographic chemical information is stored are hsted in Table 1. Examples of the use of these databases include searching the CA file to find the pubhshed work of a certain author, or the World Textiles file to determine the extent of weft knitting machinery use in Europe. [Pg.115]

Registry File. This CAS file contains more than 11.8 million chemical substance records. About 8,000—14,000 records are added each week as new substances are identified by the CAS Registry System. The substance records contain CAS Registry Numbers, chemical names, stmctures, molecular formulas, ring data biosequence information, and classes for polymers. AH of this information may be displayed. [Pg.117]

MARPAT, produced by Chemical Abstracts Service, coataias the geaeric stmcture records for pateat pubHcatioas siace 1988, which are iacluded ia the CA file. Sources iaclude pateats from 26 couatries plus EPO and PCT pubHcations. BibHographic records for retrieved references can be direcdy accessed ia this database (101). [Pg.126]

Besides subject terms, the CA File also contains bibliographical information, such as author names, location of the laboratory in which the work was done, language of the paper, and so on, and these can be searched. For example, S ROBERTS, J7/AU will find all papers published by any authors named Roberts whose first name begins with J. These terms can be combined with subject terms in Boolean searches. [Pg.1633]

As shown by the first prompt there are four types of search, of which we will discuss two exact and substructure (SSS). In an exact search, only information regarding exactly the stracture given will be retrieved, but even so there may well be several answers, because CA treats stereoisomers and isotopically substituted compounds as separate answers. At the conclusion of the search the system gives the number of answers, (e.g., 4). We may now look at the four answers by using the display command. As in the CA File, there is a choice of display formats, but if we choose SUB we will get (1) the Registry Number, (2) the approved CA index name, (3) other names that have appeared in CA for that compound, (4) a structural formula, and (5) the number of CA references since 1967, along with a notation as to... [Pg.1635]

There is also a file, LCA, which is used for learning the system. It includes only a small fraction of the papers in the CA File, and is not updated. There is no charge for using the LCA File, except for a small hourly fee. [Pg.1641]

A literature database well suited for obtaining the information we seek is the Current Journals of the American Chemical Society (CJACS) file. Like the CA file, CJACS is produced by the CAS and is searchable through the STN International network. The CJACS database has the advantages of being large (145,001 papers) and interdisciplinary, as well as covering some of the journals with the highest impact - on chemistry. The records in the database include not only abstracts, but also the full text of the articles and all the references and... [Pg.320]
