Butyl 2-naphthyl

A new Y solvolysis scale has been developed for benzylic species with extensive charge delocalization, based upon the solvolyses of some benzhydryl bromides and /-butyl(2-naphthyl)methyl bromides.39 Chlorides have negative salt effects on the ionization of benzhydryl bromide in 7-butyrolactone.40 The X-ray structure of the dimerization product of l,8-bis(dhnethylammonio)-4-naphthyl(phenyl)methyl carbocation has been determined it appears to be formed via a 4n + 2n-cycloaddition mechanism 41... 

Shih and Carr [277,278] showed that metal complexes of bis(/ -butyl-2-naphthyl-methyldithiocarbamate) are thermodynamically stable and chemically inert and that the nickel(II), iron(III), copper(II) and mercury (II) complexes of this dithiocarbamate can be separated by high performance liquid chromatography and detected with a variable wavelength detector. 

Chloro-2-butyl 2-naphthyl tellurium dichloride and Raney nickel under similar conditions yielded bi[2-naphthyl] ... 

Only two examples will be mentioned here in more detail. The Sn2 alkylation reaction of ambident potassium 2-naphtholate (2-naphthol -I- KOH) with 1-bromobutane in [BMIM]+PF6 at room temperature proceeds at a similar rate as observed in dipolar aprotic solvents such as DMF or DMSO, to regioselectively afford 1-butyl 2-naphthyl ether in 98 cmol/mol isolated yield (0/C alkylation ratio > 99 1) [899]. In contrast to the reaction in dipolar aprotic solvents, which are difficult to remove from the product, the ether product can be simply extracted into an organic solvent such as toluene, leaving the ionic liquid behind. The by-product (potassium bromide) of the reaction can be extracted with water, and the ionic liquid can be used again. 

In the naphthalene derivatives 1-fluoro- and 1-bromo-naphthalenes and 2-fluoro- and 2-bromo-naphthalenes reacted with n-butanethiolate in DMSO to give good yields of n-butyl 1-naphthyl sulphide and n-butyl 2-naphthyl sulphide respectively. t-Butanethiolate reacted similarly. ...
