Buildings locations

In order to specify the building location on the surface of the earth, the values of latitude, longitude, and altitude of the site are required. The orientation of the building can be specified as an azimuth angle between the main axis of the building and the north (or south) direction. 

Much of our understanding of quantum mechanics came out of a small building located near the soccer fields of Faelled Park in Copenhagen, Denmark. The building was constructed in 1921 to house Niels Bohr s new Institute for Theoretical Physics. The Institute became a magnet for aspiring physicists. 

Process plant buildings can be subjected to a range of impacts, depending upon the type of building construction, the location, the process conditions, and the materials being handled. From a risk standpoint, the more favorable situation is where the building locations and types of construction are such that no injury to building occupants could occur as a result of a plausible or reasonably believable event. In both building locations, the velocity profile indicated duct floe turbulence. The drilling operation of building 1619 had flow velocities and negative static pressures that were significantly higher than the operations in building 1611. These differences can be attributed to the duct diameters, sizes, and number of dust cleanouts found in the two removal systems. 

The high resistance and mass provided by reinforced concrete structures makes it particularly suited for buildings located in close proximity to explosion sources. Concrete also provides effective resistance to fire and projectile penetration which are important considerations in many explosion accidents.

Some employees reported that it sounded like two railroad cars running into each other. Witnesses reported that windows rattled in a building located about 200 feet from the small pump that fractured into pieces. There were no injuries. 

The explosion resulted in construction trailers having their sides bowed inward and significant window damages at a distance of 1200 ft. (365) and as far away as 3,000 ft. (900 m). The explosion occurred on a plant holiday. If it had been a regular work day, many more injuries could have occurred within the unit and in a neighboring office building located 500 ft (150 m) from the epicenter of the blast.
