Several of these cytochromes use nitrogen compounds as electron acceptors. Cytochrome cdx from Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a greenish-brown soluble enzyme which contains one c and one chlorin dx) heme in each of two subunits of 63 000 molecular weight. The presence of four redox centres is appropriate for the efficient catalysis of the four-electron reduction of dioxygen to water. It appears, however, that its physiological role may be the reduction of nitrite to NO. Kinetic studies on the anaerobic reduction of cd, by Fe(EDTA)2- have focused attention on electron transfer between the heme groups in the enzyme.722... [Pg.624]

Detection. — Uranium is precipitated in the Third Group and in the analysis undergoes numerous characteristic changes. (1) When present as a uranyl salt the addition of ammonia produces a precipitate of ammonium dim-anate, (NHOjUjOj, which appears as a yellow powder which is slowly transformed by ammonium sulfide to UO2S, dark brown, soluble both in HC1 and (NH<) 2C03. (2) When NaOH is added to a solution of a uranyl... [Pg.308]

Many kinds of cytochromes c occur in Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. One of them is water-soluble cytochrome c-552(s) (14 kDa) (hereafter s means soluble, and m means membrane bound) highly purified by Sato et al. (1989). This cytochrome seems to be the same protein as that partially purified by Vernon et al. (1960) and Ingledew (1982). Besides the cytochrome, several c-type cytochromes are obtained cytochrome c-552(m) (22.3 kDa), cytochrome c-550(m) (51 kDa) (Tamegai et al., 1994) Valkova-Valchanova and Chan, 1994) and cytochrome c-552(m) (30 kDa) (Elbehti and Lemesle-Meunier, 1996), cytochrome c4 (21.2 kDa) (Cavazza et al., 1996), and brown soluble cytochrome c-553 (12789 Da) (Cavazza and Bruschi, 1995). Furthermore, occurrence of several cytochromes c besides those mentioned above has been indicated (Yarzabal et al., 2002a). It has also been reported that cytochrome c (46 kDa) occurs in the outer membrane of the bacterium and participates in removing electrons from insoluble iron compounds such as pyrite (Yarzabal et al., 2002b). [Pg.82]

Reduced chalcogens. Srrlfane (H2S) reduces Ir to Ir and then precipitates 283, brown, soluble in alkali sulfides. [Pg.235]

A. antibiolicus is cultivated on a medium of 1 % peptone tryptone, 0.5 % starch, 0.2 % KjHP04, 0.2 % NaCl, 0.25 % agar, in distilled water. The rapid growth at 25-35° is accompanied by the formation of a dark brown soluble pigment. After 6 to 10 days, the culture medium is extensively extracted with ether. The ether extracts are evaporated and the dry residue is treated with petrol ether. The resultant residue contains... [Pg.55]

Polar (dimethylacetamide (DMAC), DMF, NMP, THF) and nonpolar (toluene) solvents are suitable for these reactions and should be selected according to the polymer solubility. DMAc is not a suitable solvent for polymerization and always gives brown soluble material. Addition of carboxylic acid may be beneficial in nonpolar solvents owing to the high polarity of the C-H bond transition states. However, C-H bond activations have been accomplished in toluene and xylenes without carboxylic acids. ... [Pg.35]
