3 British practice regarding overlays on rigid pavements 

Useful information regarding improved design of overlay treatments to rigid pavements based on monitoring performance on trials and schemes in the United Kingdom can be found in TRL 657 (Coley and Carswell 2006). 

Information regarding maintenance and strengthening of rigid pavements, in general, can be found in DMRB HD 32 (Highways Agency 1994). 

Treatments are generally suggested depending on the nature of distresses and condition of the concrete pavement. With respect to overlays, the instructions and recommendations are summarised as follows  

There is currently no standard British method for assessing the thickness of an asphalt overlay required to strengthen rigid pavements.
