Bridge parapets

Studies into the use of adhesives in the fabrication of metal bridge parapets have been called for because it is difficult to obtain adequate welded connections between lengths of horizontal rail. The rails are generally rectangular hollow sections and for a welded joint different electrodes have to be used for the top and bottom... 

Once a complete set of robust parameters had been determined, the data matrix was divided into tabs, identifying those parameters related to the decisions for each VRS type, i.e. roadside safety barriers, median safety barriers, bridge parapets, crash cushions, transitions, terminals and motorcyclist protection systems (MPS). Due to the low level of published guidance for terminals, transitions and MPS, these were removed from the data matrix. For each parameter, it was then determined whether it applied to the decision to install a VRS or to the selection of the performance for the VRS. 

For bridge parapets, there is less specific guidance than for roadside and median safety barriers however, obstmctions with a special risk to vehicle occupants and the height of the bridge are the most common factors. When determining the performance of a bridge parapet, factors snch as the existence of special risks to... 

The bridge climbs steeply before us, the heat trapped between the parapets and rising thickly to the summit. I cannot see the far side we ride into a translucent fire.
