Breakers, definition

Reentrainment from the bottom of the cyclone can be prevented in several ways. If a typical long-cone dry cyclone is used and liquid is kept continually drained, vortex entrainment is unlikely. However, a vortex breaker baffle in the outlet is desirable, and perhaps a flat disk on top extending to within 2 to 5 cm (0.8 to 2 in) of the walls may be beneficial. Often liquid cyclones are built without cones and have dished bottoms. The modifications described earlier are definitely needed in such situations. Stern, Caplan, and Rush (Cyclone Dust Collectors, American Petroleum Institute, New York, 1955) and Rietema and Verver (in Tengbergen, Cyclones in Industry, Elsevier, Amsterdam, 1961, chap. 7) have discussed liquid-collecting cyclones. [Pg.114]

If you are interested in a hybrid storage system with a battery, you can use a blocking diode and you should definitely fuse the battery, or use MCBs (miniature circuit breakers) to prevent possible problems from a short. [Pg.65]

Where moulded case circuit breakers are chosen for a plant in favour of fuses the coordination of cascaded units becomes a little more difficult than with fuses. This difficulty arises from the fact that these circuit breakers have a definite or near definite minimum time limit to their time-current characteristic. This causes the lower part of the circuit breaker protection curve to be almost horizontal at a low value of time, typically in the range of 0.003 and 0.01 second. [Pg.165]

The maximnm rating of any one of the loads mnst be limited by the rapid tripping or fnsing time of the device that protects the circnit. Fnses fnnction better than moulded case circuit breakers in these sitnations becanse they are not limited by a definite minimum time constraint. To ensnre that the protective device fnnctions rapidly the rated cnrrent of this device must be limited to about 30% of the rated current of the inverter npstream. Hence the ratio of load kVA to inverter kVA of each load snb-circnit will be a maximnm of abont 25%. [Pg.450]

The concept of structural temperature, though a useful operational definition of the structure of water, is not entirely satisfactory since it is generally dependent on the property (f). Using different properties for the same solution, we can get different structural temperatures. Nevertheless, in the old literature, it was common to classify different solutes in terms of their structural temperature, which in turn classifies solutes according to whether they are structure makers or structure breakers. ... [Pg.354]

The device needs to meet the above definition of an energy isolating device to satisfy the standard s requirements. If an employer determines that the device does not meet the definition, then the energy supply needs to be tracked back to a disconnect switch or circuit breaker which does meet the definition. An November 10, 1999 Letter of Interpretation notes that the extent of the lockout procedures would depend on the employees activities and their exposure to the hazards. If the maintenance/repair activities will not expose employees to a certain hazard from a part of the equipment, that portion of the equipment would not need to be deenergized. The letter includes the following ... [Pg.253]

This reaction is not complete in experiments performed by the author, but since K2O is definitely a chain breaker or a ring opener, it can be seen why potassium trimetaphosphate can be formed thermally, at lower temperatures, where it would not normally be expected to form. Formation of K2CO3 removes K2O from the reaction zone. This reaction is similar to a well-known reaction of NH4CI with basic phosphates to make MCI and a more condensed phosphate. This lower-temperature chemistry is worthy of more study and should yield many surprising ways to make compounds that are not phase diagram entities, as they are prepared from melts. [Pg.143]
