Fiber breakage force

Air-Gap Spinning. This process, also termed dry-jet wet spinning, is used to provide filament yarn either for textile use or as a carbon fiber precursor. It is suitable for producing the small bundles required for these end uses because the filament has been drawn before it enters the bath, and so drag forces are less likely to cause breakage thus, much higher line speeds can be achieved. In theory, any... [Pg.196]

The pendulum method also employs the use of one particle. The particle is suspended on a vertical fiber in contact with the substrate. The substrate is then raised and the angle between the fiber and the vertical plane is recorded at the moment of breakage of the particle-surface adhesion force. This technique is generally applicable only for relatively large particles. [Pg.45]

Frictional properties of fibers affect the processing, structure and properties of all fiber-based products. For example, friction is the force that holds the fibers together in yams and fabrics. Without sufficient friction, the strength and stmctural integrity of yams and fabrics will be lost. However, if the friction is too high, it could cause equipment failure, fiber surface damage, and even fiber breakage. Chapter 19 addresses the basic principles associated with the frictional properties of polymer fibers. [Pg.5]
