The review and comments on the text by Messrs. R. S. Jones, Plant Engineer, Asarco Corpus Christi H. L. Fike, Vice President of The Sulphur Institute and T. A. Sullivan, Research Chemist, U. S. Bureau of Mines, Boulder City, Nev. are greatly appreciated. [Pg.207]

In even larger installations, one solution is the storage of heat in high-temperature (400°C or higher) oil or in molten salt. Hot oil storage is more common, but in other cases such as the 64 mW solar power plant called Solar One, in Boulder City, Nevada, excess solar energy is planned to be stored in molten salt. These plants store the molten salt at high temperature and when electricity... [Pg.81]

Other installations include one by a Spanish company named Acciona Energy, which recently started up a 64-mW solar thermal power plant near Boulder City in Nevada. This company is also planning two thermal solar plants in southern Spain (50 mW each) in Palma del Rio for an investment of 0.5 billion euros. [Pg.97]

In Boulder City, Nevada, in 2006 the construction of a 250 million, 64 mW solar thermal power plant named Solar One started. It uses Schott s new PTR 70 solar receivers and is built by Solargenix Energy. [Pg.98]

The U.S. Bureau of Mines participated in a field trial of sulfur-asphalt concrete pavement on U.S. Highway 93 near Boulder City, Nev. in January 1977. This test section is 2100 ft long. The aggregate-asphalt-sulfur (AAS) system was used to mix the ingredients. The sulfur and AC 40 asphalt cement were introduced into the pugmill as individual components. The sulfur comprised 27 w/o of the total binder. The aggregate used in the mixture was a crushed volcanic rock which conformed to the Asphalt Institute type IVb gradation. This test section is now in post-construction evaluation. [Pg.219]

In the Boulder City plant, the magnesium reduction reaction is carried out in a mild steel cylindrical vessel about 3 ft deep by 30 in. diameter, fitted with a tall neck containing two inlet pipes. The lid and neck comprise a single piece which is attached to the cylindrical base by means of a weld, the weld being made for each run and ground away to open the vessel. A tapping hole is provided at the base of the reactor. The reactor is heated in... [Pg.253]

The Boulder City scale of production is based upon batches of about 250 lb of sponge, but reactors of about 5 ft diameter are employed by other producers, such as the Du Pont Company, with a reduction batch size of up... [Pg.255]
