Boron-stabilized synthesis

A synthesis of comblike organoboron polymer/boron stabilized imidoanion hybrids was examined via reactions of poly(organoboron halides) with 1-hexylamine and oligo(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether and subsequent neutralization with lithium hydride (scheme 8). The obtained polymers (10) were amorphous soft solids soluble in common organic solvents such as methanol, THF, and chloroform. In the nB-NMR spectra (Fig. 11), neutralization of the iminoborane unit with lithium hydride... [Pg.207]

The invention of cubic boron nitride (CBN) is closely linked to the synthesis of artificial diamond. Cubic boron nitride synthesis was conducted first in 1957. CBN crystals are produced from boron and nitrogen at high pressures of 50-90 kbar, high temperatures between 1,800 °C and 2,700 °C, and in the presence of a catalyst (Klocke 2009). During the first years on the market, CBN was seen as a competitor to diamond. However, CBN proved to be a better material for machining of hard-to-machine ferrous materials than diamond due to the missing chemical affinity and the higher thermal stability. [Pg.1175]

Yamamoto reported a convenient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of (Z)-2-alkenylsilanes and -tins (Scheme 24.3) [18]. The boron stabilized allyl carban-ions are prepared in situ by treatment of 1- or 2-alkenyl-9-BBN[19] with lithium 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidide (LiTMP). The carbanion reacts with trialkylsilyl and -tin halide exclusively at the a position to give 1,1-borasilyl or 1,1-bora-tin derivatives, which are subsequently protonolyzed with H O. The results are summarized in Table 24.7 [18]. [Pg.347]
