Boring programs

Laser-based profilometry systems have also been applied for nondestructive testing and measurement of both smooth-bore and rifled gun tubes. Working through Small Business Innovation Research program, the U.S. Army has developed laser-based profilometry systems for the inspection of the 120mm cannon used on the MI-Al Abrams main battle tank. Systems have also been built to measure the erosion of 25 mm and 155 mm rifled gun tubes. [Pg.1066]

The mathematical basis of the Mie theory is the subject of this chapter. Expressions for absorption and scattering cross sections and angle-dependent scattering functions are derived reference is then made to the computer program in Appendix A, which provides for numerical calculations of these quantities. This is the point of departure for a host of applications in several fields of applied science, which are covered in more detail in Part 3. The mathematics, divorced from physical phenomena, can be somewhat boring. For this reason, a few illustrative examples are sprinkled throughout the chapter. These are just appetizers to help maintain the reader s interest a fuller meal will be served in Part 3. [Pg.82]

Vector control efforts were never fully implemented in Africa, even though that continent bore the greatest burden of disease. Many African countries had neither the infrastructure nor the human capacity to carry out spraying programs systematically and effectively. However, today the infrastructure is better and eradication programs would be more likely to succeed, if they were reinstituted. [Pg.280]

Stationary phase (both columns), 5-/tm Nu-cleosil-120-5 C8 (octyl) mobile phase, methanol/water (92 8). Flow rate (A) 0.7 ml/min, (B) 0.2 ml/min. Injection volume, 1 fi 1. Wavelength-programmed absorbance detection. Peaks (1) retinol (2) retinyl acetate (3) vitamin D3 (4) a-tocopherol (5) a-tocopheryl acetate (6) retinyl palmitate. (From Ref. 108.)... Analyses of the starting material and products were carried out by GC and GC-MS analyses. For GC analyses, a Shimadzu gas chromatograph, GC-17A, was used. A 60-m-long narrow bore (0.25-mm) DB5 with 0.25-gm phase thickness supplied by J W Scientific was used. The GC parameters were as follows split injection (split ratio of 50 1), carrier gas of hydrogen at 1 cm3/min at 30°C. The heating program was as follows initial temperature of 30°C, initial time of 2 min, rate of 30-250°C at 3°C/min, final time... [Pg.919]
