Another important biodegradable polymer is the thermoplastic polycaprolactone (PCL), which is FDA approved for drug delivery, sutures, and several implants especially for bone tissue regeneration [21]. PCL is usually shipped in granules and can be processed into films and nanofibers or shaped and plotted under heat exposure due to its low melting point at around 60° C. [Pg.244]

Polyphosphoesters are biomaterials composed of phosphorus-incorporated monomers. These polymers consist of phosphates with two R groups, one in the backbone and the other as a side group. They have good biocompatibility and a similarity to biomacromolecules such as DNA and RNA. Polyphosphoesters are divided into two different classes polyphosphonates with an alkyl or aryl R group and polyphosphates with an alkoxy or aryloxy R group. Polyphosphoesters are copolymerized with polyethers and polyesters to enhance their physical properties. They have been studied as scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration [8]. [Pg.38]

In this chapter, we intend to present the obtaining and properties of new types of nanocomposites based on natural polymer (collagen) and bioactive compounds (natural layered silicate modified with maleic copolymers) which can be used as biomateiial, scaffold for bone tissue regeneration. [Pg.130]

In this review, recent advances in polymer/(nano)HAp composites and nanocomposites for bone tissue regeneration are presented, including specific subjects associated with polymer/HAp composition, molecular orientation and morphology, surface modification, and interactions between components and the biological environment. [Pg.102]
