Mixed bonding

Au-C bonds, mixed metal gold-silver dimers of planar, trinuclear complexes are readily formed by mixing gold(I) carbeniates and gold(I) benzylimidazolates with silver(I) pyrazolates in stoichiometric ratios. The complexes retain the ligands associated with the metal atoms of the starting materials. [Pg.34]

The detailed study of the molecular orbitals in the different species allowed a better understanding of the interactions under way. It was proved that the charge-transfer from the HOMO of the metal moiety to the n orbital of C02 is the most important interaction in the transition state and that the anti-bonding mixing of the n orbital of C02 also plays a significant role. The leading role of this HOMO-LUMO interaction also explains why the M-OCOH species is more easily formed than the M-COOH species. [Pg.87]

Unsaturated fats, as noted in Section 13.3, tend to be liquids at room temperature. They can be transformed to a more solid consistency, however, by hydrogenation, a chemical process in which hydrogen atoms are added to carbon—carbon double bonds. Mix a partially hydrogenated vegetable oil with yellow food coloring, a little salt, and the organic compound butyric acid for flavor, and you have margarine, which become popular around the time of World War II as an alternative to butter. Many food products, such as chocolate bars, contain partially... [Pg.470]

It has been recently reported that the E-form of bis(ferrocenylethynyl)-ethane, 97a, can undergo photoisomerization to the Z-form, 97b, by excitation of a charge transfer band with visible light [82]. This structural change affords a decrease in the through bond mixed-valence interaction between two ferrocenes. [Pg.109]

The best known anhydrous oxides are listed in Table 18-E-2 the tetraoxides of Ru and Os are discussed later (Section 18-F-l). The oxides, generally rather inert to aqueous acids, are reduced to the metal by hydrogen, and dissociate on heating. There are mixed metal oxides, e.g., BaRu03, and platinum and palladium bronzes of formula MlPt304 (x = 0-1). Some oxides like MnPt306 have Pt—Pt bonds. Mixed oxides are used for electrodes in H2—02 fuel cells and in the chloralkali process. [Pg.1003]

The bonding in FXe0S02F is essentially covalent, with little ionic contribution to the bonding. Mixed compounds of the type R O-Xe-OR have been detected in the Xe NMR spectra. The compound F5 SeO Xe TeFs exists only in equilibrium with the derivatives Xe(OSeFs)2 and Xe(OTeFs)2. [Pg.3129]

Re(jj -C6H6)Cp] is a sandwich complex and (147) is a bent metallocene like ReCp2H. Protonation of several of the reported complexes gives new Re hydrides, and complex [Re(jj -C6H6)Cp] has a remarkable chemistry in this respect. Compound (149) can be considered as a Re-Re bonded mixed valency d" -d species. Double-bond hydrogenation also occurs, for example, with (148). [Pg.4040]

Within the Hush formalism of electron transfer [129], the electronic coupling through hydrogen bond interfaces may be deduced from the intensity of a mixed-valence transition between juxtaposed donor-acceptor pairs. We highlight the only such detailed study in this section. Curtis and coworkers have studied a collection of hydrogen-bonded mixed-valence adducts formed between ruthenium(II) electron-donor and ruthenium(III) electron-acceptor complexes in solution [130]. Using acetonitrile or nitromethane as a solvent, hydrogen-bonded assemblies of the type [(tpy)(bpy)Ru (CN)]2, (en)2Ru (bpy) 5+ 45 (bpy = 2,2 -bipyridine, tpy = 2, 6", 2 -terpyridine, en = ethylenediamine) and [(bpy)2Ru (CN)2]2, (en)2Ru (bpy) +... [Pg.2100]

Dinuclear and polynuclear compounds continue to be synthesized in increasingly direct ways. Chapter 2 contains metal-metal bonded species such as those containing Pd—Pd or Mo=Mo and W=W bonds, mixed metal clusters, and compounds relevant to CO catalysis. [Pg.220]
