Bonding duration

Mathematically, any function can be estimated by a series of approximations referred to a Taylor series expansion. Each approximation or term of the Taylor series is based on a corresponding derivative. For a bond, duration is the first-term approximation of the price change and is related to the first derivative of the bond s price with respect to a change in the required yield. The convexity measure is the second approximation and related to the second derivative of the bond s price. [Pg.132]

Duration varies with maturity, coupon, and yield. Broadly, it increases with maturity. A bonds duration is generally shorter than its maturity. This is because the cash flows received in the early years of the bond s life have the greatest present values and therefore are given the greatest weight. That shortens the avetj e time in which cash flows are received. A zero-coupon bond s cash flows are all received at redemption, so there is no present-value weighting. Therefore, a zero-coupon bond s duration is equal to its term to maturity. [Pg.36]

These difficulties have led to a revival of work on internal coordinate approaches, and to date several such techniques have been reported based on methods of rigid-body dynamics [8,19,34-37] and the Lagrange-Hamilton formalism [38-42]. These methods often have little in common in their analytical formulations, but they all may be reasonably referred to as internal coordinate molecular dynamics (ICMD) to underline their main distinction from conventional MD They all consider molecular motion in the space of generalized internal coordinates rather than in the usual Cartesian coordinate space. Their main goal is to compute long-duration macromolecular trajectories with acceptable accuracy but at a lower cost than Cartesian coordinate MD with bond length constraints. It responds to electric arcs from welding operations. It can be affected by deposits of grease and oil on the lens. This reduces it s ability to "see" a fire. Lightning with long duration strikes can cause false alarm problems. Some vapors typically those with unsaturated bonds may cause signal attenuation. Smoke will cause a reduction in signal level seen during a fire. It may produce a false alarm response when subject to other forms of radiation such as from NDT operations. [Pg.181]
