The upper part or crown of a tooth is covered with enamel, which is the hardest of all animal tissues and contains very little organic material. Hardness notwithstanding, this enamel is often worn completely away on at least part of the tooth and is seldom seen at all except on hippo teeth and boar tusks. [Pg.57]
