Pheromones from Blattella germanica

Eliyahu, D., Nojima, S., Mori, K. and Schal, C. (2007). New contact sex pheromone components of the German cockroach, Blattella germanica, predicted from the proposed biosynthetic pathway. J. Chem. Ecol., 34, 229-237. [Pg.339]

Fig. 6.1. Pheromone-mediated courtship sequences in Blattella germanica (Blat-tellidae) and Nauphoeta cinerea (Blaberidae). In B. germanica, as in most blat-tellids and blattids, the female calls and releases a long-range attractant (a) and after contact (b) the male raises his wings and emits volatiles from his tergites... Juarez, P., Chase, J. and Blomquist, G. J. (1992). A microsomal fatty acid synthetase from the integument of Blattella germanica synthesizes methyl-branched fatty acids, precursors to hydrocarbon and contact sex pheromone. Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics 293 333-341. [Pg.237]

Fig. (6). Blattodean pheromone biosynthetic pathways utilize fatty acid biosynthesis from malonyl-CoA and methylmalonyl- CoA substrates followed by cytochrome P-450-mediated decarboxylation, hydroxylation, and oxidation. The hydroxylation step is regulated by JH III (adapted from ref. L72bJ, for Blattella germanica sex... Fig. (6). Two recent examples of isolation are gentisyl quinone isovalerate [185] and a novel p-lactone, vittatalactone [(3R,4R)-3-methyl-4-(l,3,5,7-tetramethyloctyl)oxetan-2-one [118]. The fornier is a female sexual pheromone which was isolated from the German cockroach Blattella germanica), and the latter is an aggregation pheromone which was isolated from collections of airborne volatile compounds from feeding male striped cucumber beetles, Acalymma vittatum. [Pg.411]
