I. Pharmacology. To produce the antivenom, horses are hyperimmunized with Latrodectus mactans (black widow spider) venom. The lyophilized protein product from pooled equine seta contains antibodies specific to certain venom fractions, as well as residual serum proteins such as albumin and globulins.
