Black lily

In a speech to Wagner (lines 1021-1055), Faust admits that neither he nor his father deserve any praise for their medical skills. His father brewed secret recipes in the Black Kitchen, or alchemical laboratory. He and his adepts blended contrariness of every sort, marrying a Scarlet Lion (mercury) to a Lily (hydrochloric acid). But in the end, the patients went on dying. Wagner consoles Faust, saying that both father and son did their best, and a father will always pass his knowledge down to his son. 

She says, "I am the ROSE of Sharon, and the LILY of the valley," thus revealing the fact that she is both red and white, although at first she announces herself to be black. "Oh, my Dove that art in the clefts of the rocks, in the secret place of the stairs " The Dove is the White Work triumphant. 

There is also Auripigmentum Lempinas, which is Lily-water, Crusty Orpiment, Cloddy Orpiment, dry Yellow, Cloddy Orpiment, mixed with Sandarac, Ruby Orpiment, or Realgar, white Sublimated Orpiment, differing from that of the mines, and Sublimed Orpiment from black, ruddy, and mud-coloured veins of ore. 

Hybridizers have created a glorious mix of lilies with 3"-12" flowers in a variety of distinctive shapes, resembling peaked caps, turbans, bowls, trumpets, or broad, curly stars. They bloom in shades and combinations of white, pink, red, yellow, orange, lilac, and green, many dotted in maroon or near-black. Plants bear a few to 2 dozen or more flowers atop 2-7, upright stems clothed in narrow... 

Out of this black Earth, the Sage should bring forth magnificent Lilies and Roses, and trees, who carry imperishable Moon and Sun fruits. 

Crassulacean Acid Metabolism has been documented in at least 18 flowering plant families (Table 1.1). As of 1977, there were recorded in the literature 109 genera and over 300 species of flowering plants (cf. Black and Williams, 1976 Szarek and Ting, 1977) with CAM. The largest and most important CAM families are the Cactaceae, the Crassulaceae, the Euphorbiaceae, the Aizoaceae, and perhaps the Liliaceae, especially if Agavaceae are included with the lilies. The epiphytic forms of the Bromeliaceae and the Orchidaceae make these families important.
