Suspensions bismuth subsalicylate

Dry blend items 1 and 2 and add them to item 3 slowly, agitating until smooth. [Pg.90]

Add items 4 to 7 to this dispersion gradually, mixing well each time. [Pg.90]

Bismuth subsalicylate suspension has been evaluated in the treatment of secretory diarrhea of infectious etiology as well. In a dose of 30 mL every 30 minutes for eight doses, unformed stools decrease in the first 24 hours. Bismuth subsalicylate may also be effective in preventing traveler s diarrhea. [Pg.682]

Bismuth Subsalicylate Suspension Pepto-Bismol MAS Suspending Agent... [Pg.411]

A study was made of the comparative stabilities at various exposures of an upset stomach remedy suspension. This product consisted of a dispersion of bismuth subsalicylate and phenylsalicylate in an aqueous system. Methyl-cellulose and magnesium aluminum silicate were selected as the suspending agents, because the presence of polyvalent metallic ions precluded the use of hydrocolloids affected by these ions. In addition, it was found that methyl-cellulose contributed a demulcent effect. The viscosity, as well as the suspension characteristics of the combination of protective colloids used, was of a synergistic nature. These colloids formed a thixotropic system. The thixotropy undoubtedly aids in stabilizing this system. In order to make this product palatable and impart elegance, color and flavor were added. Sample 1 (with protective colloids) showed no separation, while sample 2 (without... [Pg.87]

Suspension A preparation of undissolved particles dispersed in a liquid such as bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol)... [Pg.59]

Liquid medication takes one of three fonns elixirs, emulsion, and suspensions. An elixir is a sweet, pleasant-smelling solution of alcohol and water used as a vehicle for medicine. Robitussin, a commonly used cough preparation, is an elixir. An emulsion is a suspension of small globules of one liquid in a second liquid with which the first will not mix, such as milk fats in milk. And a suspension is a preparation of finely divided, undissolved particles dispersed in a liquid, such as bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol). [Pg.123]
