Biomineralization, hydrophilic polymer

In biomineralization processes, one must distinguish between a structural insoluble matrix, which provides a scaffold for the subsequent mineralization process, and a functional soluble matrix. Both can control the crystallization process [50]. The latter is often composed of soluble and charged macromolecules so that the application of hydrophilic polymers and polyelectrolytes is advantageous for achieving control over crystallization reactions. [Pg.4]
