A NOVEL ENZYMATIC TECHNOLOGY FOR REMOVAL OF HYDROGEN SULFIDE FROM BIOGAS... 

Biogas is normally composed of 60 to 70 percent methane and from 30 to 40 percent carbon dioxide with small amounts of hydrogen sulfide and other impurities. Because its major constituent is methane its properties closely approximate those of pure methane. The critical pressure of methane is 4710 kPa at -82.3 C. 

The exiting stream entered a separation tank where the biogas (CH4 + CO2) was removed from the liquid phase. The biogas then passed a bubble flask for visual observation, and finally a hydrogen sulfide scrubber before being measured in a gasometer. Ahead of the gasometer, samples could be withdrawn for gas analysis. 

Commercially, MCFCs are proposed by several vendors for biogas from anaerobic digestion processes of organic residues [37] and opportunity fuels such as landfill gas. These gases raise the issue of hydrogen sulfide poisoning, which is discussed in Section 3.2.2.
