CPMAS solid-state NMR has been used to investigate the dependence of sugar chemical shifts on specific conformational parameters of a variety of ribonucleotides and ribonucleosides. The distinct effects of sugar puckering on the Cl, C4, and C5 resonances of Cj endo (S type) and C3 endo (N type) furanoid conformations allow us to separate them into two groups. [Pg.253]

The backbone and side-chain and N signals of a solid 62-residue (U- C, N)-labelled protein containing the a-spectrin SH3 domain were assigned by 2D MAS N- C and dipolar correlation spectroscopy at [Pg.253]

The side-chain signal sets of the individual amino acids were identified by 2D proton-driven spin diffusion and dipolar recoupling [Pg.253]

Low-temperature N and CPMAS NMR has been used to analyze BChl-histidine interactions and the electronic structure of histidine residues in the light-harvesting complex II (LH2) of Rhodopseudomonas acidophila. Comparison of the 2D MAS NMR homonuclear ( C- C) dipolar correlation spectrum of [ C(6), N(3)]-histidines in the LH2 complex with model systems in the solid state reveals two different classes of electronic structures from the [Pg.253]

2 Peptides. The correlation of deuterium quadrupolar tensors by spin diffusion under slow magic-angle-spinning conditions can provide accurate measurements of their relative orientation. This work showed the technique applied to the cyclo-P-peptide cyclo[(5)- 3-homoalanyl-(R)-P-homoalanyl-(S)-P-homoalanyl-(i )-P-homoalanyl] with its amide hydrogens labeled by deu-terons. From the 2D spin-diffusion spectrum, the mutual orientation of the amide deuteron quadrupolar coupling tensors were found. Eight conformations that are all consistent with the NMR measurement were determined. [Pg.254]

This chapter covers only some of the ways in which activated carbon can offer utility in this field. Other possibilities are suggested in References. For a complete review the reader is referred to Chemical Abstracts where all items dealing with the subject can be readily located in the index under Carbon, active and Charcoal, active and also to Deitz, Bibliography of Solid Adsorbents, which contains a section on biochemical, medical, and pharmaceutical applications. [Pg.295]
