Bioassays for Contact Oviposition Stimulants—Two Case Studies 

All oviposition bioassays have the same problem of inducing test organisms to exhibit oviposition behavior under tightly controlled and unnatural conditions. The solution to this problem may vary greatly from species to species, as illustrated by the examples below. 

Oviposition assays for bean weevils are among the simplest. For these insects, candidate semiochemicals are often evaporated onto glass beads roughly the size of the natural host, and the number of eggs laid on treated and untreated beads
