Alternative sources of finance were the banks.By the 1880s, they were increasingly willing to invest in the chemical industry. A typical example of their investment policy was assistance to Bindschedler Busch (later Ciba). As a joint-stock concern with a modem in-company organization this chemical firm seemed particularly suited to cooperation with a merchant bank.
