Beware of Shortcuts

Adopting a PSSR checklist provided by an industry source, consultant, or even from another plant or corporate group within a site s own organization may seem efficient, and can be a good way to jump start the process, but it should still be subject to management, technical and EHS review against the needs of the site before it is adopted. [Pg.80]

Of course there are some standard items or questions that can apply to any site, but a review against unique characteristics of the site when developing the collection of PSSR review items is a good practice. Review the example PSSR checklists in Appendix A. Are there differences Are there similarities Analyze the items in the examples for clues to the type of processes or materials present at the example checklists site. Beware of shortcuts that combine steps to save redrawing a structure. Any sequence of arrows on one structure implies that that particular electron flow occurs in one step, which in turn demands that all the interacting orbitals be properly lined up. Any sequence of more than three arrows may have major AS problems. There are examples in published work of absolute nonsense written with arrows, so always be suspicious of any set of arrows that does not fit a known pathway. [Pg.180]
