As has been pointed out, different photophores can give rise to different labeling products. Therefore, the outcome of a photolabeling experiment substantially depends on the type of photocrosslinker applied. In order to select the ideal photophore for a specific experiment, one should carefully examine the different possibilities. Interestingly, there are only a few reports on the comparison of different photophores under otherwise identical conditions, especially where all three (aryl azides, diazirines, and benzophenones) are taken into account or when they are applied in an A/BP. Some representative examples will be given here. [Pg.104]

A polymer containing pe,ndant benzophenone groups (XV) is found to photocrosslink. The mechanism is inter.molecular coupling of radicals formed via photoreduction in the triplet state. In solution, crosslinking is concentration dependent as intramolecular cyclization competes (21). [Pg.22]

Several studies of a related nature have appeared on the photocrosslinking of polyethylene by benzophenone identifying benzopinacol as the main product by FT NMR analysis.Benzoin ethers have been used for the same reaction while in polypropylene little damage was found in terms of the morphological structure of the polymer. ... [Pg.362]

Photolytic decomposition of peroxides is not v y efBcient in crosslinking. An enhancement effect on the extent of photocrosslinking of polyolefins in the presence of peroxides is displayed by aromatic hydrocarbons such as naphthalene. These transfer the exdtation energy absorbed to a peroxide. This procedure, however, does not represent an important improvement when compared with that refored to earlier, namely the photoreduction of pdyethylene with aromatic ketones and quinones [84. From aromatic ketones and quinones, particulariy bena>phenone [32], chlorinated benzophenones, benzoyl-l-( dohexanol [82], a, -dimethot - hen acdr henone, 2,4,6-trimethyl benzoyl phenyl phosphinic ethyl ester [85], anthrone [86], anthraqui-none [87], naphthoquinone, benzoquinone, and their d vatives have all been examined. [Pg.171]

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are important therapeutic targets and potential biomarkers for many disorders including cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Here we present a simple conjugate of adenine, benzophenone, and biotin that can selectively photolabel HSPs in Jurkat cell lysates. Recombinant HSP70 protein was used to determine the photolabeling efficiency. Furthermore, mass spectrometric analyses were conducted to deduce the site of photocrosslinking. Structural basis of the observed selectivity will be discussed. [Pg.198]
