In 2001, the mean price of plastic materials was about EUR 1270 per toime for import, and EUR 1110 per tonne for export. The production of plastic materials varies with time and with different patterns from one plastic to another. In 2001, the development in French production, compared to 2000, was for some basic plastic materials as follows  

In 2002, the capacity of the Spanish polymer industry was 4800 kilotormes of which 3780 kilotonnes were actually produced. This gives a capacity utilisation of 85 %. Table 1.12 summarises the production data and the annual development.

Belgium has an unusually high concentration of plants manufacturing plastics. In addition, the port of Antwerp has attracted a large number of petrochemical industries. 

In 2003, Belgium produced over 8070 kilotonnes of plastics worth EUR 6883 million.
