Band formation in elongational flow

The question of formation of band structures during or after cessation of elongational flow has not been extensively addressed. Marsano et al [88] note that the texture should be present during elongational [Pg.399]

A brief mention occurs in Ernst and Navard [56] as follows By varying the shear rate. ..we observed. ..no influence on the band spacing. In addition, the same behavior has been observed when bands are generated in elongational flow. These two later results show that the periodicity of the band texture is independent of the flow condition. However, neither an external reference nor additional details are given. Presumably this was observed in their laboratory. [Pg.400]

We have not seen additional discussion or description of experiments on this interesting topic of band formation in the literature. [Pg.400]

There continue to be new developments in the field of shear-induced band structures in both PBG + m-cresol and HPC + water. [Pg.400]

Muller e.a. [116] observed that the orientation of transient band structures upon shearing of an oriented monodomain was perpendicular to initial monodomain director, and independent of the direction of shear They did not determine whether the orientation of band structures formed upon cessation of shear was perpendicular to the initial monodomain director or to the shearing direction. We suspect that it will prove to be the latter. [Pg.400]
