Bacillus licheniformis ATCC

The biosynthetic cycle for the assembly of teichoic acid of the wall of Bacillus licheniformis ATCC 9945 may be taken as an example (Hancock and Baddiley, 1972 Figure 3.4). In this polymer the basic repeating unit is -glycerol-P-glycosyl-, so that phosphate ester and simple glycosidic linkages alternate. [Pg.66]

Isol. from Bacillus licheniformis ATCC 9945 (formerly Bacillus subtilis). Component of a lipopolysaccharide from Pseudomonas aeruginosa NCTC 805. 4-N-.4C. 4-Acetamido-2-amino-2,4,6-trideoxy-D-glucose. i-Acetylbacillosa-mine... [Pg.371]

We are currently exploring the biosynthesis of novel polyamides from renewable resources using the bacterium Bacillus licheniformis (ATCC 9945a). The use of these polymers for specific biomedical and environmentally degradable polymer applications is currently under investigation. In this paper, we report the effect of culture time and the availability of nutrients on the production and molecular weight of t-PGA. Modification of r-PGA to form water insoluble derivatives will also be described. Finally, characterization of these products by NMR spectroscopy and thermal analysis is reported. [Pg.70]

Bacitracin is produced by strains of Bacillus licheniformis. Two strains have been employed extensively in research on biosynthesis of the antibiotic. The strain used by Anker et al. (1948), Hendlin (1949), Snoke (i960, 196I), Aida (1962), Kuramitsu and Snoke (I962), Cornell and Snoke (1964), Shimura et al. (1964), and Snoke and Cornell (1965) is designated Tracy I or American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) 10716. The strain employed by Hills et al. (1949), Bernlohr and Novelli (i960, 1963), and Bernlohr and Sievert (1962) s listed as Oxford University Collection A-5. [Pg.240]
