In 4-Nitro-7-phenylsulfonyl-benzofurazan gelingt der Austausch der Nitro- gegen eine Meth-oxy-Gruppe mit Natriummethanolat in analoger Weise erhalt man aus 4,7-Bis-[4-methyl-phe-nylsulfonyl]-benzofurazan mit Natriumazid in DMF 7-Azido-4-(4-methyl-phenyl-sulfonyl)-ben-zofurazan88. 

This procedure is also efficient for the synthesis of other fused tetrazoles, such as ethyl l,5-dihydro-5-oxo-7-phcnyl-8-(phenylsulfonyl)tetrazolo[ 1,5- pyridine-6-carboxy late <2000J(P1)3686>. At the same time, the unexpected azido-tetrazolo tautomerization and reversible tetrazolo transformation of 3,6-diazido-l,2,4,5-tetrazine are remarkable compared to all other polyazido heteroaromatic high-nitrogen C-N compounds <2005JA12537>.

Azido-3,4,6-tri-0-benzyl-D-galactose 49 was synthesized from tri-O-benzyl-D-galactal 47 by the short, efficient route shown in Scheme 7, the key step being the reaction of the anion formed from the 2-deoxy-lactone 48 with triisopropyl-phenylsulfonyl azide. 2-Azido-3,4,6-tri-0-benzyl-D-mannose was similarly obtained as the sole product from tri-6>-benzyl-D-glucal.
