Axial centrifuge

Fans can be divided into four general categories propeller, axial, centrifugal, and special purpose. These are defined according to the direction of gas flow. [Pg.743]

The Imperforate Bowl Centrifuge. In an imperforate bowl centrifuge the dow of the continuous Hquid phase is nominally axial, except for areas immediately adjacent to the feed inlet and efduent oudet. Tubular soHd-bowl basket and imperforate bowl conveyor-discharge centrifuges satisfy this definition. [Pg.397]

Under these circumstances, the settling motion of the particles and the axial motion of the Hquid phase are combined to determine the settling trajectory of these particles. The trajectory of particles just reaching the bowl wall near the point of Hquid discharge defines a minimum particle size that starts from an initial radial location and is separated in the centrifuge. A radius ris chosen to divide the Hquid annulus in the bowl into two equal volumes initially containing the same number of particles. Half the particles of size i present in the suspension are separated the other half escape. This is referred to as a 50% cutoff. [Pg.398]

The stress resulting from the axial forces must be considered in analy2ing the parts which resist axial separation, such as bolts, nuts, rings, etc. On scroU centrifuges the axial force owing to the axial component of the conveyor torque must also be considered. [Pg.404]
