Avoidant behaviour patterns

Broadly speaking, family therapists see drug addiction as having one of two consequences. The first is a distraction from other family conflicts, and the second is the avoidance of separation from the family. The most frequently cited example of this pattern of family behaviour features the addict becoming enmeshed in family life and, in the process, forgoing their own need to separate normally (Madanes et al. 1980). [Pg.50]

Expanded flow This is a flow pattern comprising of a section of mass flow behaviour adjacent to the outlet, on which is superimposed a core flow section, as shown previously in Fig. 5.8. The upper region has the characteristics of funnel flow behaviour. This pattern should not be confused with a flow chaimel pre-expanded hy use of a discharge device, such as a hin activator, as shown previously in Fig. 5.9, or a multi-screw feeder. These are normally fitted to secure a large outlet opening to avoid arching or control the discharge rate, rather than achieve a form of flow chaimel. [Pg.101]

To obtain as much information as possible from the test, component parts should be tested whenever possible. By applying simple loading, for example pure bending, the complex loading patterns that occur in the real structure can be avoided. In addition, the uncertainties induced by connection behaviour are eliminated. [Pg.537]
