Average tail length

In going from Eq. (15) to Eq. (16) we have approximated the average tail length as... [Pg.426]

Alternatively, an average tail length (L) can be determined from the amount of radionucleotide incorporation according to the formula [Eq. (6.3)]... [Pg.483]

The tail of this molecule (M-j is the only reactive site on the molecule so the molecule grows indefinitely as long as there are more free monomer molecules available to react. There will be exactly one polymer molecule formed per initiator molecule, and the average chain length n after all monomers have reacted will be the ratio of the initial concentrations of M and A,... [Pg.445]

For the sake of simplicity, the thickness of the interfacial layer Ro — -Rwl is taken to be the composition average of the surfactant tail length ls and the alcohol tail length lA ... [Pg.281]

A structure of C34F23 (C14F 22)11 C14H23 is proposed, where n = 0, 1, or 2 for the dimer, trimer, or tetramer, respectively. Ethylene-propylene copolymers can contain up to four types of sequence distribution of monomeric units. These are propylene to propylene (head-to-tail and head-to-head), ethylene to propylene, and ethylene to ethylene. These four types of sequence and the average sequence lengths of both monomer units, i.e., the value of w in the structures opposite, can be measured by the Tanaka and Hatada [48] method. [Pg.95]

Here we have defined both ends of the polymer to be tails. The average tail, segment length in the sphere is therefore... [Pg.426]

Many conformations were sampled by the usual MC procedure. The result is of course that there is no preferred orientation of the molecule. Each conformation can, however, be characterised by an instantaneous main axis this is the average direction of the chain. Then this axis is defined as a director . This director is used to subsequently determine the orientational order parameter along the chain. The order is obviously low at the chain ends, and relatively high in the middle of the chain. It was found that the order profile going from the centre of the molecules towards the tails fell off very similarly to corresponding chains (with half the chain length) in the bilayer membrane. As an example, we reproduce here the results for saturated acyl chains, in Figure 10. The conclusion is that the order of the chains found for acyl tails in the bilayer is dominated by intramolecular interactions. The intermolecular interactions due to the presence of other chains that are densely packed around such a chain,... [Pg.50]

Assuming that the internal droplets experience a hard-sphere-like repulsion when surfactant layers come in contact, an estimation of the van der Waals interactions can be obtained from the average length of the surfactant tails (1 3 nm) [20]. The coalescence frequency is therefore the unique free pa-... [Pg.185]
