Automated lay

In the automated lay-up system, each layer of veneer (with exception of the top surface veneer) passes under an automatic adhesive appHcation system. This may be a spray appHcation, a curtain coater, or an extmder, each of which is designed to apply a uniform adhesive spread on the upper face of each veneer. After all except the top veneer have been spread with adhesive and laid together, the top veneer is added. The me of the veneer—adhesive assembly at this point should be about 8%. [Pg.384]

Spray-Up. Instead of hand lay-up, continuous glass roving and liquid resin are fed into a gun, which chops the glass fiber, mixes it with the resin, and sprays it into the mold. This can be automated for lower labor cost and greater uniformity. Spraying is often followed by hand-rolling to expel air and density the assembly. Then it is allowed to stand until cured. Products are similar to those from simple hand lay-up. [Pg.685]

Many of the technical issues involved in computer-aided model-construction have previously been reviewed by Tomlin et al. (1997).
