Asymmetric thermal radiation

Aside from the general thermal state of the body, a person may find the thermal environment unacceptable if local influences on the body from asymmetric temperature radiation, draft, vertical air temperature differences, or contact with hot or cold surfaces (floors, machinery, tools, etc.) are experienced. The data for local thermal discomfort is mainly based on studies of people under low activity levels (1.2 met). For higher activities it can be expected that people are less sensitive to local thermal discomfort. The relations between dissatisfaction and local discomfort parameters are found in CR 1752. [Pg.378]

Some specific studies on the measurement of heat losses and indoor temperatures in buildings deserve attention. In his review of the relative importance of thermal comfort in buildings, McIntyre considered that the mean radiant temperature was the most important parameter, followed closely by the "radiation vector," which is defined as the net radiant flux density vector at a given point and measures the asymmetry of the thermal radiation field in a room (97). Benzinger et al. characterized the mean radiant temperature, and asymmetric radiation fields, using a scanning plane radiometer, which maps the plane radiant temperature in a given space indoors (98). [Pg.269]

Cpl-induced asymmetric photochemistry is a way to conduct absolute asymmetric synthesis. The field is well developed. The method depends on the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized radiation by the enantiomeric species of the reactants and thus on their g factor. The kinetic schemes are well developed, and for mechanistic questions as well as for the determination of molecular chiroptical constants cpl irradiation can be used with success. Unfortunately, the smallness of the enantiodifferentiating g factor prevents the method from being a match to the methods exploiting diastereomeric intermolecular interactions for thermal synthesis purposes. [Pg.40]

Thermal comfort may not be attainable because 1) the heat balance is unable to be satisfied for Ts and Esw, or 2) asymmetries such as drafts, asymmetric radiation, etc., exist. Defining the thermal load, L, as... [Pg.266]

It is interesting to compare the asymmetric nature of the radiation-induced expansion with asymmetries in compressibility and thermal expansion. In the literature differences in labeling of crystallographic axes lead to apparent discrepancies in the anisotropic behavior. However, in most cases the stated values of the lattice parameters remove ambiguity. [Pg.339]
