Astrologer, becoming

His name has become a synonym for clairvoyance Nostradamus, astrologer to the king of France, the most famous seer in Western history. But the real meaning of his prophecies has gone undetected, hidden in a secret alchemical code. Known as the Green Language, it was understood by only a handful of medieval occult scholars, and has been lost for centuries — until now... 

In alchemical works, the pattern of life/death/rebirth is often repeated upon the subject in various forms. For example, during distillation, our liquid passes into an invisible state then condenses and manifests in an improved form. The alchemists viewed this as analogous to death, a visit to the spiritual world then rebirth in the physical. Similarly during recrystallization, our matter is dissolved into a medium and becomes clear, then made to reappear as an improved form. In astrology, the birth chart shows the imprint of the cosmos on the individual at birth. So too during those periods of rebirth of our matter there is the imprint of the heavens. By repeatedly reinforcing a particular planetary power during these multiple rebirths, our subject becomes polarized to that force. 

In the liquid state materials are much more susceptible to astrological influences (especially through the Moon) and we use this to impress or augment a planetary power in our subject. It is not uncommon to repeat this process of solve et coagula a number of times using distilled water or a specially prepared type of water which has already captured certain astrological influences during its manufacture. With each cycle, the subject becomes more powerful.

Settling in Egypt from 640 onwards, the Arabs found manuscripts and inscribed tablets in the pyramids. The Arabic manuscripts mention the edifice Abou Hermes at Memphis, in which Hermes (the father of Thoth ) was reputedly buried it comprised two pyramids, one for him and one for his wife. ° In the tenth century, all the conditions were therefore present for the elaboration of tales of the discovery of a tablet of instruction in a tomb of Hermes, while at the same time alchemy had become fashionable among the Arabs. One of these revelations is called The Treasure of Alexander an Arabic treatise on astrology and alchemy, it also contains reflections on the microcosm and the macrocosm, talismans, and mentions Hermes as well as Apollonius of Tyana. ... 

These ideas gradually affected alchemy which, in the face of growing materialism and the achievements of scientific chemistry, was fast becoming a mystical rite. Just as astronomy had grown out of astrology and left the older system of thought to the occultists, so had the scientists deserted alchemy and left it to those more attuned to the supernatural. 

Surprisingly, an easy chart festooned with sextiles and trines isn t necessarily better than a hard chart crisscrossed with squares and opposition. Astrologers have long noted that people with harmonious charts run the risk of becoming lazy and self-satisfied, while highly accomplished achievers often have high-stress charts. 

The most self-destructive mistake you can make as an astrologer is to allow your knowledge of transits to become a source of anxiety. Take it from me Most of the terrifying things that astrologers agonize over never come to pass. Don t waste your time worrying about them. 

By taking note of these natural rhythms, you can time your activities to maximum advantage — and you don t need an astrological calendar either. Just glance at the Moon whenever you re out at night, and soon, knowing its phase will become second nature to you. Table 17-1 describes the approximate appearance and orientation of the Moon along with the actions best suited to each phase. 

Becoming a skilled astrologer has nothing to do with psychic ability. Astrology is an accumulated body of knowledge — not the mystic ability to intercept messages from the spirit world. Anyone can learn it. But you re more likely to be interested if you have some of the following in your chart ...

Despite its complex chemistry determined by trial and error, medicinal success and high ideals, the prevailing view of alchemy has now become disdain. This is due to unremitting focus on alchemy s more sensational aspects like counterfeiting and astrology. While it was the forerunner of modem chemistry, medicine and pharmaceuticals, these sciences have now subsumed the finest of the alchemists art. 

Polanyi found one other necessary requirement for full initiation into science belief. If science has become the orthodoxy of the West, individuals are nevertheless still free to take it or leave it, in whole or in part believers in astrology, Marxism and virgin birth abound. But no one can become a scientist unless he presumes that the scientific doctrine and method are fundamentally sound and that their ultimate premises can be unquestioningly accepted. ...
